What is prenatal care?

Antenatal care is the care you get from a health professional before your baby is born, during pregnancy. Antenatal care, also known as prenatal assessments, are aimed at improving the quality of life for both mom and baby, reducing risks and ultimately providing moms with a positive experience of pregnancy and motherhood from the get-go. Antenatal care also allows you to prepare for your child and ensures a positive childbirth experience.

What is the aim of these visits?

Having a healthy pregnancy is the best way to ensure positive childbirth and an excellent start to motherhood. With educational antenatal care consultations focused on helping prepare new and existing moms to make the best choices when it comes to their child’s health, nutrition, growth, development and well-being. Dr Makhubo is the only female gynaecologist and obstetrician with a private practice in Sebokeng. Woman to woman, she strives to create a relaxed and supportive environment for her pregnant patients.

She offers antenatal care for mothers throughout their pregnancy journey focused on maintain optimum health for both mom and baby through the use of routine ultrasounds, screening for genetic abnormalities with a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals and compassionate guidance during each trimester of your pregnancy as well as birth itself.

What will happen during these antenatal assessments?

During your first obstetric consultation, you will be asked a range of questions related to genetics, family history and your medical and gynaecological history for her to get to know you as a pregnant mom-to-be. Following this initial consultation, future appointments will include ultrasound scans as well as urine tests and blood pressure checks to ensure the health and development of your little one. Dr Makhubo will also be able to discuss your birth plan and any related queries on pain management and post-pregnancy advice and counselling.
